The Teacher

The Teacher

WRITTEN BY: Freida McFadden

NARRATED BY: Danny Montooth , Leslie Howard

Before delving into “The Teacher,” potential readers should be aware of sensitive content involving an improper relationship between a teacher and student, grooming, and bullying. These elements are present in the story, though not immediately apparent from the synopsis.

“The Teacher” took me on an unexpected journey, leaving me utterly astonished by the conclusion, earning it a five-star rating. Having read several of McFadden’s works, I was unprepared for the unpredictable twists this novel presented. The revelations at the end were so startling that I’m compelled to experience the story again with the ending in mind.

The characters, particularly unlikeable, evoked strong emotions. McFadden’s portrayal of Addie was spot-on, likely aided by her own experiences as a mother to a teenager and her own teenage years. The author’s note at the book’s conclusion, acknowledging her daughter’s assistance, adds a personal touch. Narrators Leslie Howard and Danny Montooth brought the characters’ emotional struggles to life, with Howard adeptly conveying teenage turmoil and Montooth effectively capturing Nate’s essence, despite his smaller role.

Having read six of McFadden’s books, including a Christmas short story, I consider myself a dedicated ‘Freida Readah.’ Her storytelling has captivated me to the extent that I eagerly anticipate any of her future works, with two more releases expected this year. I’m ready for them!
